Robin's
first exposure to bead weaving was in 1986
when she lived in Juneau, Alaska. She was given a gorgeous blue beaded
amulet necklace made by nationally known bead
artist, Ella Johnson‑Bentley of
Juneau. Ella soon became a mentor and good
friend. Ella’s constant encouragement in those
early days encouraged her to develop her then budding interest into the
passion she has for beading today.
Robin
retired from Alaska State Government in 2001
and she and her husband relocated from Juneau to
Wenatchee, Washington. This created the perfect
opportunity to direct all her energy into
beading and to develop her own style. She uses a
variety of traditional bead stitches and their
variants and especially enjoys freeform bead
weaving using many different colors and types of
beads. She begins a freeform piece with only a
color scheme in mind and working on the premise
that all things are constantly changing, she
weaves with limitless possibilities, creating
pieces of wearable art that will tweak your
curiosity and engage your own creative nature. Her
husband has jokingly threatened to start a
support group called FLAB - Friends and Lovers
of Addicted Beaders.) She feels very fortunate
to have discovered a passion that calms her
mind, awakens her creative nature and brings joy
to herself and others. |
